DescriptionMelmoth is a Ty1/Copia LTR retrotransposon originally described in Brassica (Pastuglia et al. 1997) and also found in other plant organisms such as Arabidopsis (Llorens et al. 2009). This element belongs to the Retrofit clade within Branch 2 of the Ty1/Copia LTR retrotransposons (Llorens et al. 2009). Melmoth of Arabidopsis is taken as a representative. This element is 4769 bp in size, including 128-bp LTRs. The internal region encodes for a single Open Reading Frame (ORF) of 1454 amino acids containing both gag and pol polyprotein domains.
