DescriptionGalEa1, characterized in the genome of the squat lobster (Eumunida annulosa), represents the first Ty1/Copia-like LTR retrotransposon described in Crustacea (Terrat et al. 2008). It belongs to GalEA clade a Ty1/Copia lineage specifically found in marin animals (Terrat et al. 2008). The genome of GalEa1 is 4669 bp in size, including LTRs of 124 bp long. The LTRs bounded internal region contains a Primer Binding Site (PBS) complementary to a tRNAMet, a single large Open Reading Frame (ORF) (which harbors a stop codon at position 1.516 and a frameshift at position 1.979) and a Polypurine Tract (PPT) adjacent to its 3’LTR. The translated region displays the typical gag and pol polyprotein domains of Ty1/Copia LTR retrotransposons: gag, protease, integrase, reverse transcriptase and ribonuclease H (Terrat et al. 2008).
