DescriptionKabuki is a LTR retrotransposon inserted in the chromosome W of the silkworm Bombyx mori. This element is part of a nested structure containing at least seven mobile genetic elements. Kabuki is inserted into another element (Bm1) and also contains two elements inserted in its internal region (FUI and Yokozuna) (Abe et al. 2000). Kabuki belongs to CsRN1 clade (Bae et al. 2001; Tubio, Naveira and Costas 2005). The full-length consensus for this element is 13 Kb in size, including LTRs of 131 and 184 nt. The internal region of this element displays a Primer Binding Site (PBS) complementary to a tRNATrp, an Open Reading Frame (ORF) for a gag-pol gene, element insertions, as well as a Polypurine Tract (PPT) adjacent to the 3´LTR (Abe et al. 2000).
