Element:Ulysses

Description

Ulysses is a LTR retrotransposon characterized in the genome of Drosophila virilis (Scheinker et al. 1990). This element belongs to Osvaldo clade (Malik and Eickbush 1999). The genomic structure of Ulysses is 10.6 Kb in size including LTRs of 2.1 Kb. The internal region displays a Primer Binding Site (PBS) complementary to a tRNAHis, two Open Reading Frames (ORFs) for gag and pol genes, and a Polypurine Tract (PPT) adjacent to the 3´LTR (Scheinker et al. 1990; Evgen'ev, Corces, and Lankenau 1992).
