DescriptionSto-4 is a Ty1/Copia-like LTR retrotransposon described in Zea mays (Marillonnet and Wessler 1998). According to (Llorens et al. 2009), this element belongs to Tork clade within Branch 2 of the Ty1/Copia LTR retrotransposons family. While the complete sequence of Sto-4 has been estimated to be 7.2 kb long, the analyzed genome corresponds to the partial sequence deposited in the GenBank (Marillonnet and Wessler 1998). It is 6383 bp in size, including LTRs of 117 (5’LTR) and 181 bp (3’LTR) (Marillonnet and Wessler 1998).The internal region contains a Primer Binding Site (PBS) complementary to a tRNAiMet and a final Polypurine Tract (PPT) flanking a single long Open Reading Frame (ORF) of 1406 amino acids displaying the gag and pol domains structured as is typical in Ty1/Copia LTR retrotransposons (Marillonnet and Wessler 1998).
