THE GYPSY DATABASE (GyDB) OF MOBILE GENETIC ELEMENTS

The Gypsy database (GyDB) is a Computer Supported Cooperative Work that furthers the scientific objective of excellence in research, services and education by making available worldwide an open access focused on the diversity, evolution, and impact of viruses and mobile genetic elements in their hosts evolution.

OWNERS

The GyDB is owned and operated by Biotech Vana S.L. (Biotechvana), Lab 16D, Parc Cientific, Universitat de Valencia, Catedratico Jose Beltran 2, 46980, Valencia, Spain.

CONTRIBUTORS

Any member of the scientific community (including students and educators) can register and become editors to contribute material related with the topic.

NAVIGATION AND CONDITIONS OF USE

The GyDB consists of an open access database supported by wiki software. Navigation of the GyDB is free. You do not publicly expose your identity unless you choose to provide this information when registering and loggin in the wiki (the wiki is modifiable only by registered users).

2) All contents at GyDB are distributed under the terms of the CREATIVE COMMONS ATTRIBUTION LICENSE, which allows unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

3) The GyDB sets a temporary session cookie (PHPSESSID) whenever you visit the site (a cookie is a small data file that web sites write to the visitor's hard drive when the site is accessed). The cookie and the information concerning your session will be automatically eliminated shortly after you close your browser. Alternatively, you can deny the cookie, but keep in mind that doing so will prevent the use of cookie-dependent features.

4) Use of the GyDB for any illegal purpose, or that in any manner could exceed authorized access or infringe damage, disable, overload, or harm the operation of any part or site of this project, is strictly prohibited.

5) Biotechvana reserves its right to remove from the open access any content involving immoral, pseudo-scientific and/or off-topic references. By registering and accessing GyDB in any way, including logging in the wiki, using servers, or solely browsing the open access, you agree to, and are bound by, the terms of use described throughout this agreement.

REGISTRATION

1) Authors interested in improving and expanding GyDB topics can contribute with their knowledge or modify the contents by logging in the wiki. In order to log in a user must register first to obtain a user name and an associated password.

2) Registration is free of charge but all editions are logged by date and author. Registered users contributing material are authors which take responsibility for their entries. Their names are properly cited where correspond to in the open access, even if the entries have been updated by other authors.

3) The registration process must be carried out by a main registering author, which is responsible to register the remaining co-authors. A registering authors can update his/her lists of co-authors at any time via his/her personal page.

4) To preserve integrity and quality of data, a revision mechanism has been included in the system. The registering author (or us) is the senior that acts as a reviewer for his co-authors. All entries and modifications of the co-authors are required to be approved by the registering author.

CAN I BE A CO-AUTHOR IN THE MAIN GyDB PUBLICATION?

The second release of GyDB (2.0) is already closed and the manuscript has already been submitted and published in Nucleic Acids Research (NARESE) 39 (suppl 1): D70-D74 doi: 10.1093/nar/gkq1061. Other authors are kindly welcome for the upcoming third release of this project, but bear in mind that registration in the wiki is not sufficient for being a co-author in the main manuscript. The activity of a user is logically considered for his/her consideration in the GyDB consortium of authors.

ADDITIONAL PREMIUM SERVICES

Registration and access to the GyDB is free of charge. Additionally we offer premium services to registered users interested in having computational time to run exhaustive analyses to map and annotate large data samples in private remote spaces. Registered users can also activate alerts, create social networks, and promote online meetings within the GyDB, via the premium services. These services are optional and will be charged on a yearly payment quote that varies depending on the requested additional services. Premium Services can be activated from your GyDB profile page. For further details, or any special inquiry you may have, feel free to contact our technical support staff.

y clicking on Proceed I confirm that I am the registering author and that I have read and agree to the terms and conditions to join the GyDB.

Welcome to the Gypsy Database (GyDB) an open editable database about the evolutionary relationship of viruses, mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and the genomic repeats where we invite all authors to contribute with their knowledge to improve and expand the topics.
